Still no answers in deadly Century explosion

The Escambia County sheriff's department said the investigation into the deadly Nov. 18 explosion near the town of Century remains ongoing.

My NWFL submitted a public records request to law enforcement involved after the incident was first reported by NorthEscambia.com.

One person was killed and another injured during what Escambia County Public Safety Director Eric Gilmore said was being investigated as "an accident" at an oil company facility near Oil Company Road and Fannie Rd near the Alabama-Florida line. An explosion was reported at the site Friday, November 18, 2022 at approximately 1:00 PM Central Time.

“There was never any danger to the public,” Gilmore said, despite one death and another person suffering serious injuries.

Christopher Lugo of WKRG reported that officials with the county said the nature of the call was "burns with explosion."

The victims have not yet been identified. We will update this story as we receive more information.
